  • Senior Citizens Inc. announced the 2025 Legends, Leaders and Life Well Lived Award honorees Dr. Otis S. Johnson, Camille O’Neill, and John A. White, Sr. who will be honored at a luncheon on May 8—this award recognizes their community contributions and lifelong achievements.  The Savannah Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Savannah Police chased a suspect who committed a forcible felony—starting a pursuit near a home off Liberty Parkway—that ended when fleeing Kenneth Gordon struck 60-year-old Darren Lewis; Mayor Van Johnson said police will bring criminals to justice.  WSAV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Huxsie Scott, known as The Voice of Savannah, is a jazz, blues and gospel singer who began singing in her church and local bands and now is the original vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra.   • A contest featuring 16 Savannah dishes began on March 19 and will run through several voting rounds until April 2 with the winner announced on April 9—readers vote online to choose the ultimate favorite dish.  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LeAndrea Mikell, the Executive Director for Governmental Relations at Savannah State University, was named the 2025 Emerging Leader at the Southeast Georgia Leadership Forum. She was honored for her achievements at SSU + her volunteer leadership with local groups like Leadership Savannah and Union Mission.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Savannah K-12 students can ride Chatham Area Transit fixed-route and paratransit buses free until May 31 under a new Student Pass Program approved on Feb. 25 in collaboration with the public school system. Parents must register by March 21 (with passes distributed from March 24 to March 28).  WJCL
  • Voters in Chatham County approved a 1% sales tax referendum on Tuesday that will generate about $705 million through 2030 to fund improvements for Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Turnout was roughly 5% of 210,000 registered voters—showing strong community support for better school facilities.  GPB News
