- ➤ Army Apache pilot Alan King from Savannah completed his final flight in Poland today, ending 19 years of service. He will retire on July 1 to remain in the Southeast and honor a lifelong dream inspired by his father — a Vietnam War helicopter pilot. WJCL

- ➤ At the Lucas Theatre on Saturday, the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra held its final 2025 concert featuring John Williams’ hits (like Star Wars and Jurassic Park). Tickets remain available for its Feb. 7 show after the Jan. 17 performance sold out. WJCL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Board approved a new phone policy that stops elementary and middle school students from using phones during class hours and allows high school students to use them only during breaks. - ➤ The Georgia Public Service Commission approved Georgia Power’s $15 billion grid expansion plan on Dec. 19 to add five new gas units for data centers. - ➤ Travelers can legally sleep in their vehicles at Georgia rest stops as long as they use the area temporarily (this does not include camping overnight).
