COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Donations for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign have not reached the $125,000 goal as only $67,000 is raised, while the Savannah Corps sees increased need for shelter and food assistance after a recent cold front. The campaign runs through Christmas Eve and volunteers and contributions are still needed. WTOC 11
- ➤ SCAD donated over 400 gifts today to Union Mission’s Parker’s House as part of its 31 year SCAD SERVE tradition; the items included winter coats+art supplies, scooters, toys and treats to brighten the holiday season for local families. The Savannah Tribune
- ➤ United Way of the Coastal Empire will honor community leader Swann Seiler as the 2026 Woman of the Year at the Women Who Rule luncheon on Wed, Mar. 4 at the Savannah Convention Center. - ➤ Yesterday, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce held its 219th Annual Meeting where over 200 members celebrated statewide advocacy wins, a record regional job fair with 2,400 job seekers, and a leadership change as Jamie McCurry took over as Chairman. Savannah Chamber of Commerce
- ➤ At the Annual Black Business Excellence Gala on Thursday, Dec. 11 at the Armstrong Center, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce received a $136,700 grant from the Georgia Coalition of Black Chambers to aid black-owned small businesses impacted by COVID—boosting their recovery and growth. - ➤ Representatives from NAAA visited Savannah on Dec. 17 to tour the expanded Convention Center built with a hangar door for agricultural aircraft. The agency will hold its annual convention in November 2026 with an expected 900 attendees while planning a return visit in 2029. Savannah Chamber of Commerce

- ➤ Residents gathered in Forsyth Park on Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. at West Waldburg and Whitaker streets to show support for Ashley Wasielewski, who was injured in an acid attack on Dec. 10, while police continue their investigation. WJCL

- ➤ Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health is hosting a Christmas caroling concert this holiday season for community members. The event will be held at their main site (further details on timing and location have not yet been announced). WTOC 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Effingham County is upgrading Low Ground Road after safety concerns from potholes and truck traffic in the greater Guyton area; temporary repairs are underway and construction will begin in February (2027) to pave, widen, and expand the right-of-way. WTOC 11
- ➤ Airman Cameron Shackelford, a Savannah native (who joined the Navy a year ago), supports the TACAMO mission that provides airborne communication links for nuclear deterrence. Currently assigned to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Four in Oklahoma City, he aims to inspire local youth. The Savannah Tribune
