  • Today, River Street Sweets donated $22,000 from its Pralines Day campaign, providing 110,000 meals to Kids Cafe through Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. The initiative gives afterschool meals and tutoring to at-risk children.  Savannah Business Journal
  • Savannah College of Art and Design’s SCAD Serve partnered with Union Mission for its 31st year, donating over 400 gifts to local children and families as part of the holiday program (which aims to ease mental health struggles this season).  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Calvin Woodum celebrates 20 years as a painter in Savannah with two exhibitions. His mini retrospective is at the Beach Institute through Dec. 31; his new show Two Decades: '05-'25 opens with an artist talk at 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Creative Approach (408 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.)  Savannah Morning News

  • Savannah’s Pirates’ House, founded in 1753 and located at 20 East Broad St near the riverwalk, is Georgia’s oldest bar and an inspiration for pirate lore in Treasure Island. HEALTH NEWS

  • A Savannah family said Mary Fullwood’s condition worsened at PruittHealth Savannah after staff failed to follow doctors’ orders following her stroke — the facility went 21 months without a required state inspection and the family warns others to check care standards before choosing a nursing home.  WTOC 11
  • Savannah has seen mild norovirus cases today but experts expect an increase as more travel occurs—doctors stress that soap and water is more effective than sanitizer and advise using bleach-based cleaners on surfaces, while urging those with nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea to seek care promptly.  WJCL
  • Doctors warn that holiday heart syndrome may cause irregular heartbeats after heavy meals and drinks during festive celebrations. Health experts advise older adults and those with heart conditions to pace alcohol intake (three to four drinks) and stay hydrated to help prevent symptoms.  WJCL

  • Two Savannah high schools, Sol C. Johnson and Islands, will compete in the GHSA State Esports Championship on Dec. 13 at the Bartow County Schools Esports Arena in Cartersville. Johnson’s semifinal starts at 11 a.m. while Islands will face Northview at 12:30 p.m.  WTOC 11
  • Benedictine, after winning back-to-back state championships in Dec. 2022, will face undefeated Creekside Monday (7 p.m.) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (in Atlanta) for the state Class 4A championship, marking their return to the title game.  WJCL
