- ➤ Volunteers from the YMCA of Coastal Georgia delivered 60 beds and gifts to children at Frazier Homes on Tuesday, Dec. 9 through the 'A Place to Dream' program (in partnership with the Housing Authority of Savannah). Savannah Morning News
- ➤ WJCL22, Dick Broadcasting and P.A.C.K Savannah hosted the Toys for Teens Drive Wednesday in Savannah, collecting new gifts including blankets, sports gear, gift cards and bicycles for local teens often left out of traditional toy drives, with volunteers and businesses joining to help 1,500 children this season. - ➤ First Bryan Baptist Church Sunday School will celebrate 199 years of service on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the church (theme: Teaching and Training for youth and adults) with native Rev. - ➤ USA Today ranked the Savannah Christmas Market No. 6 in its 10Best list for the nation. The market offers live shows + family-friendly activities and holiday dining; it is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Dec. 31 with some vendors closed on Christmas. Savannah Morning News
- ➤ Residents in Savannah gear up for oyster roasts as locals host holiday gatherings with fresh oysters from trusted seafood vendors. - ➤ Governor Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp announced the 14th Annual Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities at the State Capitol, honoring ten recipients including Savannah-based Sherrill Milnes and Luciana Spracher for their creative contributions. - ➤ Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Beta Phi Lambda Chapter will host its 81st Debutante Ball at 7 PM on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Savannah Civic Center’s Johnny Mercer Theater. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Effingham College and Career Academy in Effingham County earned the state’s highest STEM certification today, making it one of only seven high schools in Georgia to receive the (Executing) rating. The school uses project-based learning to help students become effective problem solvers. WJCL

- ➤ Georgia is testing a three-year pilot plan that would let licensed anglers fish red snapper for two months instead of one or two days, with a new smartphone app for catch reporting & NOAA to review feedback before approval for next year. WTOC 11
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Savannah’s Coastal Kings FC wrapped up their first Fall UPSL season tied for 3rd place with 16 points (5 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw) and won their inaugural playoff match. The team attracted over 100 players at tryouts and plans to build a pathway for local talent. The Savannah Tribune
- ➤ Defensive end Xavier Esquillen (a Charlotte native) transferred from Savannah State to Georgia State in Atlanta after three strong seasons at SSU, where he made two All-SIAC teams and set a school record with five sacks in one game. He is set to play as an outside linebacker for the Panthers. The Savannah Tribune
- ➤ Aaron Kelton resigned from his position as Savannah State head football coach on Nov. 14 after nearly four seasons — the university posted a national search on Nov. 17 and plans to hire a new coach by January. The Savannah Tribune
