  • Kathy Jones, a Savannah local who once received help from the Salvation Army's Empty Stocking Fund, cooks and serves lunch every Tuesday at the organization's shelter on Montgomery Street.   • Savannah has named its new pothole repair truck 'Uncle Fill' after sixth-grader Naimi Williams from Hubert Middle School won the city-school contest; the vehicle will support the new Pothole Patrol initiative aimed at speeding up repairs.  WTOC 11
  • Georgia residents planning to mail holiday gifts should meet USPS deadlines to have packages delivered by Christmas. For domestic mail, items must be sent by Dec. 17 or Dec. 18, and for international shipments, deadlines range from Dec. 2-16.  Savannah Morning News

  • Inside Savannah's Candy Kitchen, the company has seen a surge in orders, production and shipments—recording over 22,000 orders in a single day last month ahead of Thanksgiving.   • Making Marks 30th Annual Art Exhibition opened Sunday at Telfair Museum featuring 24 tapestries + works contributed by 370 community members. The inclusive exhibit welcomes participants of all ages and abilities and will be on display through January.  WTOC 11
  • Festive holiday events brighten Savannah this weekend as Ships of the Sea Museum hosts a maritime celebration on Dec. 11, Fort Pulaski holds candle lantern tours on Dec. 12-13, and parades grace Tybee Island and downtown on Dec. 12-13.   • City officials announced Monday—remembering her decades of service—that the Richmond Hill community mourned educator Frances Meeks. Her motto—'Bloom where you are planted'—now inspires a local award honoring her 40-year career.  WJCL
  • East Savannah United launched a Tuition Scholarship Fund today at the new Early Childhood Learning Center; the 20,000 sqft public-private facility — partnered with Chatham County, the city, and the Housing Authority — will serve 144 children and support low-income families, with completion in spring.  Savannah Business Journal
  • The Senate study committee is weighing a new needs-based college aid program after a report showed Georgia families face high student debt—borrowers owe over $42,000 on average, prompting calls for a separate fund to support education beyond the HOPE Scholarship.  WJCL

  • Savannah Steel, the city’s new professional women’s basketball team in the UPSHOT League, will begin play on May 15 with road games and open at Enmarket Arena (its new home) on May 22. Tickets are on sale as the team builds local basketball opportunities.  WJCL
