COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On the day before Thanksgiving, Savannah Hilton Head International Airport saw heavy travel as officials said passengers were advised to arrive two hours early for parking and security screening. The airport expected 76,000 passengers — a rise of 8% from last year — and officials urged travelers to check with their airlines for any updates or weather delays.  WJCL
  • On November 23, 2025, Campbell and Sons Funeral Home held a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new location at 2520 Bonaventure Rd where hundreds attended the event and heard remarks from local religious leaders. The Campbell family cut the ribbon — with Pastor Da’Henri R. Thurmond Sr., Bishop Matthew Odum, Sr., and Bishop Jackie Gilbert Grant offering their dedications as guests toured the facility and enjoyed refreshments.  The Savannah Tribune
  • The MLK Marshals Reception honoring the 2026 MLK Honorees—organized by the Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day Association—will be held on December 13 at 4:00 p.m. at Overcoming By Faith Church Ministries, 9700 Middleground Road in Savannah; the event will honor local leaders Leroy and Olga 'Loto' Williams, Evalena Hoskins and Moncello Stewart with a theme titled 'A Fight with Courage, A Victory for Love.'  The Savannah Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • James Massey and his wife Liz started Two Tides Brewing Company in Savannah's Starland District in spring 2018—after a law change allowed them to sell beer by the pint—and they have since grown by adding a food wagon, Float Coffee, SMOL Bar and Laundry Diner. They will host their 6th annual Metal Fest tomorrow at 4 p.m. on Black Friday featuring bands including Black Tusk and Gillian Carter.  WJCL
  • The Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Black Business Excellence Gala at The Armstrong Center on Thursday, December 11 at 7 PM—celebrating the achievements of black owned businesses in Savannah with awards, live entertainment and a silent auction.  The Savannah Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • The St. James A.M.E.Church family will hold its annual Candlelight Communion Service on December 7th at 5:00 p.m. at 632 East Broad Street in Savannah — Rev. Eric Brown from St. Paul A.M.E.Church of Black Creek will lead the service.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Tybee Island denied a special event permit for Orange Crush trademark holder George Turner III and approved a similar festival by Steven Smalls scheduled for April 18, 2026—city officials based the decision on proposal completeness and public safety, and Turner’s appeal was unanimously denied.  Savannah Morning News
  • Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin near Savannah over 230 years ago, which quickly transformed cotton farming & led to a rise in slave labor. USDA data shows that over 14 million bales of cotton will be harvested this season, a sign of the invention’s lasting impact on agriculture.  WTOC 11
  • SCAD completed a $4 million renovation of Lucas Theatre for the Arts that restored original plasterwork and gold-leaf details and upgraded modern amenities. The theatre now hosts community events and features Lucas Café—open Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 3 PM.  The Savannah Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edwina Lovett, a lead teacher at a Family Child Care Learning Home, has been named a finalist for Georgia’s Early Childhood Educators of the Year for 2025—2026 by DECAL and the Georgia Foundation for Early Care—Learning. Each finalist will receive $500 while three winners will be chosen in December to earn additional cash awards and support for classroom improvements.  The Savannah Tribune
  • On November 19th, Food Lion Manager Horace Polite presented a check & food donation to the SSU STAR Pantry at Savannah State University to support students during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.  The Savannah Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheriff Richard S. Coleman and his team will serve free Thanksgiving meals today at three spots—Conner’s Temple Baptist Church on 509 W. Gwinnett St., Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on 661 E. Broughton St., and Circle K Parking Lot at Quacco Rd. and Highway 17. Community members may bring a covered dish as set-up starts at 10:00 a.m. with meal service running from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  WTOC 11

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Savannah’s historic Cotton Exchange building on East Bay Street is on the market for the first time in 150 years at a price of $10 million. The property still shows its original carved wood and stained-glass window labeled 'COTTON' and has served as home to Solomon’s Lodge No. 1 for over fifty years — the new owner must preserve its exterior — to protect its historic legacy.  WJCL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Savannah State football players earned All-SIAC honors for their strong season. Linebacker Darrian Bell, defensive end Xavier Esquillen, and defensive lineman Tony Rountree, Jr. were recognized for key plays (Bell had 68 solo tackles) and (Esquillen recorded 11.5 sacks).  The Savannah Tribune
