COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Savannah Downtown Business Association announced that free parking is available at all city-owned garages on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day—plus every Tuesday and Wednesday from Dec. 2 to Dec. 24 for holiday shoppers. City-owned garages include Bryan Street, Liberty Street, Robinson Street, State Street, Whitaker Street and Eastern Wharf.  WSAV
  • Chatham County residents can request free Uber rides during Thanksgiving weekend after 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30—vouchers cover up to $25 for one one-way trip and are limited to the first 200—and the Law Offices of Joshua W.   • Ten years after their daughter was killed by gun violence, Savannah residents Ricardo and Angela Manuel launched a foundation on Saturday—aiming to support families affected by similar tragedies. The organization offers grief therapy referrals, crisis response, and other resources to honor Lorraine Manuel's memory, and her father said one gun death is too many.  WJCL
  • The Big Savannah Toy Drive kicked off on Nov. 21—and local businesses are collecting new, unwrapped gifts until Dec. 17—to support children and families served by Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center.  Savannah Business Journal
  • This season, several local groups in Savannah are asking for donations such as toys, food, and household items to help those in need. Donors may drop off items at key local sites and also give monetary gifts to support holiday programs—offering varied ways to share community support.  Savannah Morning News
  • The Empty Stocking Fund has helped local families for over 50 years and supported more than 100,000 families—up to 2,500 people in some years—with Christmas gifts and food assistance. The Salvation Army and Savannah Morning News say donations will support toy purchases for children, gift cards for teens, and food boxes for families through Dec. 24.  Savannah Morning News
  • Savannah native NFL player Warrren Brinson gave out 300 turkeys to local families during a Thanksgiving outreach event+ his effort helped many residents prepare for the holiday meal.  WTOC 11
  • Elementary and middle school girls from five counties gathered at Lake Mayer Park on Saturday for the annual Girls on the Run 5K as hundreds ran 3.1 miles, with Savannah Police Chief Lenny Gunther presenting medals to all finishers—supporting the program's goal to build confidence and healthy habits.  WJCL
  • The UGA marching band has invited a Savannah teen with Down Syndrome to join its Friday night rehearsal—he will join group practice later this week.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hannah Welsh from Richmond Hill, who trained at Kelly & Co. in Savannah since childhood, will perform with the Radio City Rockettes in this year’s Christmas Spectacular—fulfilling a dream she held since she was 7.  WJCL
  • Emma Waters—crowned Miss Savannah 2026—visited News 3 to share her excitement about winning the title and reflecting on her achievement.  WSAV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Wentworth City Council held its first reading of a zoning amendment to add data centers as an allowed industrial use — a change that could reduce traffic issues compared to warehouses — during a Thursday meeting. Public hearings will be held on Dec. 1 at 3:30 p.m. with the planning and zoning commission and on Dec. 18 to let residents offer their input.  Savannah Morning News
