COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Georgia Hunters for the Hungry is a statewide program by the Georgia Wildlife Federation that turns deer into venison for local families in need — organizers reported they are halfway to their goal of processing 140,000 pounds of meat. Hunters can drop off field-dressed deer at more than 50 processors, including Wise Brothers Processing and Taxidermy in Savannah, during business hours.  Savannah Morning News
  • Today, the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club hosts its fifth annual telethon in Savannah—aiming to raise $200,000 for youth programs that serve over 1,000 children with offerings like STEM, tutoring, and transportation. CEO Mark Lindsay said the event will also feature turkey dinners provided by Nolan Smith’s mother to support kids in gaining vital life skills.  WJCL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash on I-95 at the GA, SC line blocked all lanes near Hardeeville when an overturned tractor-trailer truck caused the backup—officials advise drivers to avoid exit 5 for the next 6 hours.  WTOC 11

  • Today at 10 a.m., the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce will cut the ribbon at Coastal Tables and Tales (408A Bull St.), Savannah’s first cookbook shop set to offer cooking classes, workshops, and author talks. Tomorrow on St. Helena Island, the nonprofit Muloma (meaning 'we are together') Heritage Center will host a Friendsgiving Bonfire from 3 to 7 p.m. as it begins teaching traditional Southern farming and cooking techniques.  Savannah Morning News
  • The Lucas Theatre reopened after a six-month restoration by SCAD that used over 15,000 gold sheets to bring back its 1920s look — it now holds public tours on Wednesdays. The theatre hosts about 250 events a year and blends new features like a café with its historic charm.  WJCL
  • The Savannah Christmas Market is back and bigger than ever at Plant Riverside District from Nov. 20th to Dec. 31st, featuring more booths, live music, and family activities following an 80% growth since its start in 2020.   • On Thursday, downtown Savannah's Cathedral Basilica unveiled its renovated twin spires after a year of silence. Officials spent $2.5 million to replace over 500 tons of steel rods—ensuring the bells will ring safely for years to come.  WTOC 11

  • Governor Kemp announced today that Virginia Transformer Corp. will invest $40 million to expand its facility near Rincon—creating over 400 new jobs in Effingham County, and construction on the expansion will begin in January 2026.  WSAV

  • Georgia Department of Transportation leaders warned drivers about the risks of distracted and impaired driving as Thanksgiving travel nears. At their committee meeting, they noted that fatal crashes are down from last year and stressed that buckling up and securing children boosts survival—especially in the back seat.  WTOC 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Savannah is hosting the Southeastern Conference volleyball tournament today at Enmarket Arena, with the South Carolina Gamecocks playing at 2 p.m. and the event running through Nov. 25 while City Hall shines in blue and gold from sunset Friday — a tribute to the boost for local hotels and restaurants.  WJCL
  • Bethesda Academy Blazers will play in their third straight SCISA AA state championship as they face Pee Dee Academy in a rematch on Saturday, Nov. 22 at noon.
