BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new federal bill tightens the definition of legal hemp and could force local shops to pull most products from their shelves if it takes effect in November 2026 — one store said 95% of its inventory would vanish. Local owners warn the rule will hurt business and customers who use hemp for pain relief.  WJCL
  • Georgia Tech’s Tech AI Hub and Georgia Tech-Savannah are hosting the Learners and Leaders forum on December 9th from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Georgia Tech-Savannah Campus or virtually at 210 Technology Cir.—The forum will show how artificial intelligence is solving challenges in transportation, manufacturing and education—attendees can ask questions about their business strategies.  The Savannah Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • After 6 months of work, the Lucas Theatre of Art and Design in downtown Savannah was restored to its 1920s style with hand-painted gold leaf finishes, updated bathrooms, refurbished plaster, new carpeting, modern backstage areas, and a new cafe—SCAD invested $4,000,000 in the renovation and preserved a local landmark.  WTOC 11
  • The Historic Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center at 502 East Harris Street will host an artist talk and exhibition featuring award-winning abstract artist Calvin Thomas Woodum on Saturday, November 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.—admission covers the conversation, tours, and lite refreshments while his exhibit runs through December.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar—housed in the historic Gibbons Range Building—will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a block party on November 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 116 W. Congress St., featuring free oysters from Savannah Oyster Farm, Pepsi-inspired dishes, live music by Lucero and The Train Wrecks, and an interactive SCAD mural to benefit Eco-Georgia.  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Savannah State University celebrated its 135th Founders Day at Tiger Arena with community leaders, alumni, students and faculty gathering to honor its legacy as Georgia’s oldest public HBCU—keynote speaker Dr. Tomikia LeGrande received the Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence. Alfred D. McGuire, Jr. received the Cyrus G. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award—he is a 2003 alumnus recognized for his transformational leadership at Woodville-Tompkins High School.  The Savannah Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal Highway Safety Administration and local transportation agencies are observing Crash Responder Safety Week to remind drivers to slow down and move over for emergency workers clearing crash sites—efforts aimed at reducing fatal secondary crashes. Officials said that over 250 responders were killed between 2019 and 2023, urging motorists to drive safely and protect those on the road.  WTOC 11
  • Chatham County commissioners planned to end their agreement with CAT, citing a federal complaint and concerns over funding and service issues (riders complained about unpredictable bus schedules and missed rides for medical appointments). Savannah Mayor Van Johnson urged the officials to meet and work out a solution to avoid further disruption in bus service.  WTOC 11

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Communities across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry will host holiday tree lightings, parades and festivals starting today in Savannah and continuing until December 31. Organizers have planned events like markets, boat parades and lighting ceremonies in Alma, Baxley, Beaufort, Bluffton, Bloomingdale, Brooklet, Port Royal, Richmond Hill and Statesboro — further details will be updated as new events are announced.  WTOC 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Starting November 21, Savannah will host the Allstate SEC Volleyball Tournament through November 25 following a three-year deal signed in 2024 by Visit Savannah and the Savannah Sports Council to bring the event back since it last took place in 2005. The championship will use Enmarket Arena for games and the expanded Convention Center for practice—Savannah was chosen over six other cities for its strong facilities and community support.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Savannah State’s women’s basketball team won a 114-37 exhibition game against Barber-Scotia at Tiger Arena on November 15. Jazmin Thornton led with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals while Jayden Boykin added 17 points, 10 steals, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Savannah's Enmarket Arena will host the SEC Volleyball Tournament starting Friday, Nov. 21 and ending on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Sixteen teams including top-ranked Kentucky, Texas, Texas A&M, and Tennessee will compete while games air on the SEC Network and SECN+.  Savannah Morning News
  • Calvary Day athletes Kinsey Prado and Dalton Kelley signed college letters in a ceremony at the Cavalier gymnasium; Prado will play volleyball at Piedmont University (Division III) and Kelley will play baseball at Columbus State University (Division II).  Savannah Morning News
  • Port Wentworth’s homeschooled junior golfer Hayden Price signed her letter of intent on November 12 at The Habersham School and committed to play college golf at Shorter University in Rome.  The Savannah Tribune
