- ➤ The Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition and Resilient Coastal Georgia hosted a recognition ceremony on Nov. 13 at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah to honor first responders — including members from local police, fire, and EMS departments — for their work supporting children facing trauma. - ➤ WARN notices from companies in Georgia confirm nearly 1,000 layoffs at eight sites as firms plan to shift operations; Memorial Health in Savannah (which will lay off 120 workers by January 31) is among those affected while other cuts are set from early January to mid-December. - ➤ Savannah will celebrate holiday fun beginning tomorrow when a European-style Christmas Market opens at Plant Riverside District at 11 a.m.—featuring shops, live music, food booths and a Festival of Trees. Historic Savannah Foundation will hold a free talk on how the old Municipal Grand Hotel was changed while Live Oak Public Libraries will show the free documentary 'The Librarians' at Ben Tucker Theatre at 5:30 p.m.—adding more festive choices for families. - ➤ The Coastal Heritage Society cut the ribbon on the new STEAM Center at Savannah Children’s Museum Tuesday in a renovated 1925 storehouse now hosting the 'Numbers in Nature' exhibit with a 1,800-square-foot mirror maze. The center was built with hundreds of thousands of dollars in community donations and a matching campaign by Malcolm & Julia Butler up to $150,000 until the end of the month. WSAV
- ➤ The Davenport House Museum is hosting holiday-themed Yuletide Tours from Tuesday, Nov. 18 through Saturday, Jan. 3 — tours run Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for students and $10 for children ages 6-17. The museum is also offering Holiday Traditions and Experiences of the Enslaved Community featuring Gullah-Geechee Master Storyteller Patt Gunn and the Saltwata Players on December 26 and 27, with tickets priced at $50 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under — a program that explores historic holiday practices. - ➤ Valerie Bailey-Hearns, a Statesboro grandmother, started Bailey Boys Car Seats after her grandsons died in a car crash in August 2023 from improper restraints, and her nonprofit now provides car seats and installation training ahead of the Thanksgiving travel rush—Dr. James Dunne of Memorial Health said the program is expected to save hundreds of lives.
