COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A vigil has been set up in the Liberty City community for a person who died in a house fire — local officials said community members are welcome to attend the memorial.  WTOC 11
  • Communities across Southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry will host holiday tree lighting events with upcoming dates including Savannah on Nov. 28 and Brunswick on Nov. 29—several more are set through early December.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Weird Al Yankovic will perform his 'Bigger and Weirder Tour' at the Enmarket Arena on June 3, 2026—tickets go on sale Friday, Nov 21 at 10 a.m. with special guest Puddles Pity Party.  WJCL
  • Christmas on the River presented by Hyundai will start this week along Savannah’s historic waterfront with festive events including a Christmas Market running November 20—December 31 and a Lighted Boat Parade on November 29. The events will feature live holiday performances and family celebrations designed to bring festive cheer to the community.  WJCL
  • Savannah transforms for the holiday season with a lighted boat parade, ghost tours, and festive events at historic theaters — and decorated squares and museum tours that create a magical backdrop. The city's unique celebrations give locals a Christmas spirit that stands apart from anywhere else.  Savannah Morning News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Nov. 1, Georgia's new SNAP work rules took effect, requiring able-bodied adults without dependents to work 20 hours weekly and narrowing exemptions for caretakers to those caring for children under 14. The policy change is expected to reduce benefits for thousands—including 45,000 in Chatham—while local agencies and the City of Savannah provided food boxes to support affected residents.  Savannah Morning News
  • The Tybee Island Police Department joined Logan’s List, a voluntary database that lets neighbors register details about residents with special needs to help officers respond better to calls. Family members can register their loved ones on the city website to share useful information with officers.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Healthy Savannah is urging residents, faith communities, and local businesses to donate the top 10 nutritious foods to area food pantries during the holiday season and throughout the year—this call comes as nearly 1 in 6 households in Chatham County face food insecurity, with over 60% of local students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.  Savannah Business Journal
  • LeapFrog’s latest study rated the safety of 79 Georgia hospitals from A to F—Savannah’s Candler Hospital earned a D while St. Joseph’s Hospital earned an F. The review examined factors like preventing medical errors and infections to help patients choose safe care options.  Savannah Morning News
