ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire at 6:29 a.m. on Saturday along the 10300 block of Middleground Road displaced six residents — fire crews quickly knocked down the flames and no injuries were reported while the Red Cross was notified for assistance — and the cause remains under investigation.  WTOC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new law will ban over 95% of hemp extract products by limiting THC to 0.4 milligrams per container, a sharp drop from the current Georgia allowance that lets each product contain up to 10 milligrams. Hemp operators warn that the change will push sales to the black market—risking jobs and revenue across the industry.  The Current

CRIME NEWS

  • Early Wednesday morning, veteran D’Angelo Shaw was shot while working security at Lucky’s Pub and later died, and his community honored him through an 'order up' fundraiser started by Rachael Aldinger—45-year-old Jeremy Scarth is in custody as authorities continue the investigation and additional fundraisers have been organized for his family.  WSAV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The average gas price in the Lower Atlantic region dropped last week to $2.78 per gallon—down from $2.82—and is about 9% lower than the national average; it was 5% lower than a year ago, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.  Savannah Morning News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Healthy Coastal Neighborhoods released a new database and cookbook to help local anglers learn safe ways to prepare fish from the coast of Georgia. The tools offer clear guidelines on how to lower toxin intake—such as PCBs and toxaphene—by advising on proper cleaning and cooking methods.  Savannah Morning News

  • A Georgia program helping low- to moderate-income first-time homebuyers has grown since 2016, state Rep. Carl Gilliard said. The workshops—called 'Come Get Your Keys'—connect buyers with up to $10,000 for down payments and closing costs while guiding them through the home-buying process.  WSAV
