- ➤ Pounce Cat Cafe in downtown Savannah is running a pet food drive to help families affected by the government shutdown by collecting cat food, dog food and litter at 404 W. Broughton St. daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. — owner Ashley Brooks said the drive aims to keep pets with their families during this period. WJCL
- ➤ Elevate Savannah, a nonprofit that supports Chatham County Public Schools, raised over $200,000 at its Leadership Awards Dinner on October 16th at Kehoe Iron Works at the Trustees’ Garden (the event honored local leaders). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A freeze warning is in effect from 9pm Monday to 9am Tuesday in Savannah as temperatures are set to drop to record lows with inland areas falling to the mid-20s and coastal spots reaching the low 30s. - ➤ Residents and officials in Pooler debated a $200,000 allocation for a new Downtown Development Authority - designed to revitalize Main Street - during a Monday night council meeting. - ➤ The City of Tybee announced Friday it will offer free parking from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day to boost tourism and help local businesses attract more visitors. - ➤ Railroad projects are set to occur in Chatham and Effingham counties through November and December—impacting several road crossings. In Effingham, crossings such as Reedsville Road on Nov. 20, Marion Avenue and Fair Street on Nov. 24, Exley Spur on Nov. 25, Indigo Road on Nov. 26, Stillwell Clyo Road on Dec. 1 and Ebenezer Road on Dec. 2 will close for two to five days while maintenance at Meinhard Road in Chatham is planned for Dec. 8.
