COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Origin Coffee Bar on MLK Jr. Boulevard is offering free meals to anyone who shows a SNAP receipt—no questions asked—to help local residents who struggle to afford a meal. Donations through in-store gift cards and digital contributions on Venmo fully support feeding the community. WTOC 11
- ➤ Chatham County leaders and Feed The Hungry partnered with community groups — launching emergency drive-through food distributions across the area — to help local families affected by SNAP cuts. Events included one at Groves High School on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m., and will include a giveaway at Johnson High School on Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a giveaway at David’s Crabhouse on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m., and a Thanksgiving dinner at John S. Delaware Center on Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. WJCL
- ➤ Nearly 200 people and over 50 model military airplanes came together on a clear October morning at the Staff Sergeant Anthony Davis Memorial Airfield — on Savannah Speedway Road — to honor service members and raise money for the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum. - ➤ Yesterday, Savannah Porchfest kicked off in and around Baldwin Park, where over 30 live bands played on front porches and in the park—while local vendors offered food and goods. The festival was started by four local neighbors to bring the community together and featured music from jazz to hip-hop. WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bulloch County Schools is launching a weekend program & offering paid Saturday training with a $250 stipend to help new hires earn a Class B commercial driver license with passenger and school bus endorsements. The program requires a background check, physical exam and drug test, and starts Nov. 15 for those who need flexible hours to keep other jobs. WJCL

- ➤ Right whales were spotted off Hilton Head Island and Savannah by Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, and boaters are urged to slow down and maintain a 500-yard distance as the calving season begins November 15—about 380 endangered whales remain. WJCL

- ➤ Several Marine recruits who graduated Nov. 7 from Parris Island met at the Military Welcome Center at Savannah Hilton Head International Airport before flying home over the weekend. They shared pride and brotherhood ahead of Veterans Day — now enjoying time at home before their next training step. WJCL
