- ➤ Public ice-skating sessions will begin at Enmarket Arena on Friday, Nov. 7 — the City of Savannah, Oak View Group, and Zawyer Sports and Entertainment formed a partnership to launch the event. Savannah Business Journal
- ➤ Yesterday, local law firm Harris Lowry Manton LLP donated $5,000 each to Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and the Atlanta Community Food Bank to help address food shortages after SNAP benefits expired. - ➤ The Chatham County School Board met with state legislators at A.B. Williams Elementary during their annual Board Breakfast to discuss literacy, teacher pay, mental health concerns, loan forgiveness, and funding for the Little Acorn Academy—while also highlighting the need for better safety standards for school employees. Board President Roger Moss and Rep. Ron Stephens said lawmakers will vote on an education tax relief bill today that could impact state support for these issues. The Current
- ➤ City and county leaders signed a beam for a new Early Childhood Learning Center in east Savannah that will serve 144 students ages six weeks to four years in fall; the project is part of SPLOST Seven aimed at reducing educational and economic disparities. Officials said that if voters reject SPLOST Eight today, plans to build three additional centers in Chatham County will not move forward — a critical decision for future local education. WSAV

- ➤ Construction crews are making progress on a new 43,000-square-foot concourse expansion at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, which will add four new gates and updated restaurant and retail spaces to ease congestion—one of the largest projects in nearly two decades. The $26.8 million project is on schedule and will open next summer—providing more room for airlines to expand and a smoother travel experience for passengers. WSAV
- ➤ Brightside Child Family Advocacy is struggling as the federal shutdown leads to job losses and a pause in SNAP benefits—leaving families without food or a stable roof over their heads. - ➤ District Chief Doug Struble of Chatham EMS received the Star of Life Award for his role in reviving a 43-year-old patient on Wilmington Island—his team worked 83 minutes to save her. - ➤ Healthy Savannah announced continued funding of the CDC’s five-year, $5.1 million REACH grant—administered with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia to support health equity in low-wealth neighborhoods through nutrition, physical activity, and breastfeeding.
