  • Operation Patriots FOB continues to support local veterans as it relies on community backing—volunteers and donors help fund essential programs that offer care and resources.  WTOC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Business leaders and local organizations have partnered with the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, SEDA, and the United Way of the Coastal Empire to accept donations for federal workers serving without pay amid the government shutdown—supporting TSA agents, FAA staff, air traffic controllers and Customs officers in nearby counties. CULTURE NEWS

  • The SCAD Savannah Film Festival is underway, drawing Hollywood icons, student filmmakers and alumni to Savannah for a week of screenings and celebrations+ Spike Lee was honored Tuesday with the Legend of Cinema Award, and today the Global Shorts Forum begins at the SCAD Museum of Art at 2 p.m. featuring a film linked to SCAD and local broadcaster WJCL 22.  WJCL
  • The SCAD Savannah Film Festival returns to town this week—bringing Hollywood to the Hostess City and marking a family tradition for actor Miles Teller, who first appeared when his film 'Rabbit Hole' was shown fifteen years ago. His grandmother, Leona Flowers, said the event reminds the family of cherished memories—while the red carpet will feature stars like Will Arnett and Joel Edgerton.  WJCL
  • Savannah will host many Halloween events for families and adults—each event offering a mix of fun and scares. On Oct 30, the Savannah Impact Program will hold a trunk-or-treat at 2005 Waters Ave and a 'Villains and Vixens' show at the Green-Meldrim House at 6:30 p.m.; on Oct 31, another trunk-or-treat, the SPD Blue Light Fright Night at 1710 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, and a Boo-fest at 295 Police Memorial Drive will take place, while the Deadly Disguise Interactive Murder Mystery Experience runs at the Rainbow House until Nov 1 and the play 'Tiny Beautiful Things' runs from Oct 30 to Nov 9 with discount tickets available.  Savannah Morning News

  • Savannah Area Chamber Vice President of Member Services Tina Hinson Mock addressed about 50 FBLA members at the South Effingham High School chapter’s officer induction ceremony—students, parents, advisors, and community leaders celebrated the new officers and discussed their goals for the coming year. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Savannah will host an open house at Bull Street Library from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on November 3 to gather public input on a project to improve road safety along 37th Street between Bee Road and Ogeechee Road — the project, backed by a $9.9 million grant, will upgrade traffic signals, sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes.  WSAV
  • Government shutdown has left 1.4 million low-income SNAP recipients in Savannah at risk of losing November benefits if federal funds are not restored by Friday—local farmer Joe King warned his produce might spoil and SNAP shoppers like Andrea Norwood may have to rely on food pantries if aid is cut.  Savannah Morning News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The CHSA Loan Fund received a $1M investment as a five-year loan from the Erich and Hannah Sachs Foundation to support urban housing efforts and address heirs' property issues in Chatham County. Executive Director Anita Smith-Dixon said the low-cost capital will fund construction financing—an approach praised for improving housing opportunities.  WTOC 11
