CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ During SCAD’s film festival, star Miles Teller visited Savannah Taphouse on Sunday to watch the Eagles and Giants game — staff initially thought his call was a prank until he appeared in person. The visit boosted local business enthusiasm — staff captured a memorable photo and even kept his bar glass as a keepsake. WTOC 11
- ➤ Miles Teller spoke with WJCL 22 News Saturday during the opening night gala screening at the SCAD Film Festival for his new fantasy romantic comedy Eternity—he recalled that in the past he and friends enjoyed late-night karaoke at McDonough's. The film will be in theaters this November. WJCL
- ➤ On Oct. 27, Savannah hosted the Soul Sessions Masquerade Ball (a night of mystery and music) where local artists played live music and wore creative costumes. Organizers said the event celebrated local talent (drawing a big crowd) and added a lively touch to our community. WTOC 11

- ➤ Savannah College of Art and Design was named the top design university in the Americas and Europe by Red Dot Design Ranking after 48 students and alumni won 21 awards — including three Best of the Best honors in fields like fashion, industrial and interactive design. The college said its students have earned over 185 design recognitions since 2014 and was the only American institution in the top five. WSAV
- ➤ Abby Minick, who struggled in school as a child, returned to Savannah Chatham Schools as a fourth grade teacher and finds teaching reading & writing highly rewarding. In her second year, she values the students' independence and cherishes the moments when they learn and play. WJCL

- ➤ A raccoon in Pooler attacked a family dog on Oct. 21 and later tested positive for rabies, though no humans were exposed and the dog was vaccinated (the Georgia Department of Public Health advises residents to keep pets current with shots). WTOC 11
- ➤ On Oct 27, the Paint the Town Pink campaign held Mammography Day in Savannah as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The SJ/C Mobile Mammography Unit was stationed at the Chatham County Courthouse at 133 Montgomery St, and other sites offered appointments plus a chance to win a staycation prize.
