- ➤ Savannah Feed the Hungry hosted its 17th annual Christmas in October event on Oct 25 at the Windsor Forest Community Center, offering free hot meals, clothing, toys and gifts to families, seniors and the working poor affected by a government shutdown. Volunteers like longtime supporter Cheryl White and members of the Alpha Zeta Chapter supported the event, which also featured live music by the Infallible Funk Band — drawing hundreds of guests. - ➤ Hurricane Melissa is now a category 2 storm with 100 mph winds located southeast of Jamaica in the Caribbean; it is forecast to strengthen further over the weekend + it could reach major hurricane status before Monday while models show it staying well east of coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry. - ➤ Tropical Storm Melissa is now a Category 1 hurricane with 90 mph winds and is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane today—while Savannah may see dangerous rip currents on Monday. Savannah Morning News

- ➤ City officials are holding open houses on Oct 28 at 6 p.m. and Oct 29 at 10 a.m. to gather input on redeveloping the Savannah Civic Center — the project will demolish the Martin Luther King Jr. Arena in early 2026 for $10 million and renovate the Johnny Mercer Theatre while keeping it operational.
