- ➤ Downtown Savannah drivers will face heavy traffic delays on Saturday, Oct. 25 as festivals, parades and events slow streets and block parking. City officials warn that no parking zones will be in effect early—and vehicles parked in these areas may be towed. Savannah Morning News
- ➤ A Savannah family learned that their WWII pilot uncle, Second Lt. Marion 'Don' Zipperer, did not die in Italy but crashed in France nearly 80 years ago when French historian Sylvain Ducrot uncovered the true story—he later invited the family to a large Armistice Day memorial in La Tranclière and the pilot’s memorabilia has been donated to the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler. - ➤ A West Chatham Middle School student was hit by a car while walking to the bus on Thursday morning—school staff checked the child and sent them to Memorial Children's Hospital—and Pooler Police is investigating the incident. Savannah Morning News

- ➤ Savannah State is preparing for its 135th homecoming celebration with the rallying cry 'get ready the tiger is roaring' to boost school spirit + officials will announce more details on dates and events soon. WTOC 11
- ➤ Savannah High School students taught elementary kids how to handle peer pressure and make healthy choices at Hubert Middle School Thursday morning. The Positive Peer Influencer program—now active in 10 high schools and 12 middle schools with about 280 trained teens—covers topics such as the dangers of fentanyl. WSAV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Town officials in Bluffton removed an invasive yellow-legged hornet nest near the corner of Calhoun Street and Lawton Street to protect local honeybees and agriculture; experts plan further removals and ask residents to report any sightings (only trained specialists should handle nest removal). - ➤ An estimated 7,000 gallons of sewage spilled on the 1991 GA-25 Connector at 1 p.m. Thursday due to an air release valve failure — Savannah staff responded and are repairing the valve, with work expected to finish by 1 p.m. Friday. WSAV

- ➤ Georgia’s tourism industry broke records for the third year in a row as more than 170 million visitors generated nearly $5 billion in tax revenue and supported an $82 billion economic impact—making tourism the state’s second-largest industry. A State Senate Study Committee toured Gainesville, Savannah, and Valdosta and will soon meet in Henry County to talk with leaders about increasing investment in marketing the state. WSAV

- ➤ New personalized breast cancer treatment is helping patients get the best care while keeping surgery less invasive—techniques like oncoplastic surgery help maintain natural appearance and improve quality of life. - ➤ Savannah's City Hall turned pink Thursday at 6:45 p.m. for Paint the Town Pink, a St. Joseph’s/Candler initiative for the Telfair Mammography Fund supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it will remain pink until Oct. 27. - ➤ Oceanside Care Center responded to WSAV’s investigation into neglect claims when interim administrator Richard Washington gave no comment during a Thursday meeting.
