  • Residents in Pooler say flooding worsened after developers raised the Outpost Bay build site by 3 to 4 feet, which diverted water onto nearby properties—city officials briefly halted work and arranged a meeting with the developer to address concerns.  WJCL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • It has been one year since seven people died when a gangway collapsed on Sapelo Island during a cultural day festival—leading to the cancellation of the event—and local attorneys are discussing moving the wrongful death lawsuit from Gwinnett County to McIntosh County as the community continues to grieve.  WTOC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Savannah’s Municipal Grand opened in July after transforming a 1960s bank building into a boutique hotel with 44 rooms and lively bars — including a rooftop pool deck and an underground venue — while Southern Living named it a must-visit spot.  Savannah Morning News

  • Yesterday, Parker's Fueling the Community Golf Tournament raised funds to support Savannah-Chatham Co schools by giving money to local education programs. The event boosted support for schools - a gesture that promises to benefit students in the region.  WTOC 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rising ocean levels are making freshwater saltier and researchers are studying how this change affects alligators. Benjamin Angalet, a master’s student at Kennesaw State, caught gators with a rod and reel and took tongue samples to test salt effects — his work may explain why some small alligators struggle to grow.  GPB News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting fiscal year 2028, states with SNAP error rates above 6% must cover extra costs for food assistance and may cut benefits—Georgia’s error rates range from 14% to 16%—which could reduce help for roughly 300,000 people and lower child nutrition for about 96,000 children.  WSAV
  • The Housing Authority of Savannah plans to demolish the old Yamacraw Village and build new affordable housing, but the demolition review is on hold because of the federal government shutdown. Residents still living in the 1940s units and leaders at Bryan Baptist Church worry about safe relocation and potential building damage—officials promise priority placement and vouchers for affected families—while community discussions continue.  WSAV
