CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 'Illuminate' Savannah Pride Festival will take place this weekend—from October 25th to 26th—in Forsyth Park with a vendor market, play zone, drag story time, glow party, and a costume contest, while a themed movie plays on the lawn. Attendees may join for free or opt for the Patrons of Pride Pass that offers unlimited drinks and a swag bag.  WSAV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center said Invest 98-L, a tropical wave near the Windward Islands, is likely to become a tropical depression later this week as it moves westward at 20-25 mph before slowing in the Central Caribbean—computer models also suggest it could be named Melissa. Residents are advised to prepare for possible impacts.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, about 5,000 people marched in downtown Savannah for 'No Kings Day 2.0' as they moved from Emmet Park to City Hall to demand political accountability—organizers and protesters said the event highlighted growing concerns over national policies.  WJCL

HEALTH NEWS

  • From Oct. 8—14, the Georgia Department of Health inspected several Savannah restaurants and found low scores due to unsafe food temperatures and unsanitary practices. Officials say a restaurant’s condition may change daily, so violations seen on one day might not reflect overall operations.  Savannah Morning News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Four Savannah area volleyball teams advanced to the GHSA state quarterfinals after winning playoff matches last weekend. Richmond Hill and Savannah Arts will host North Forsyth and Hart County on Tuesday while South Effingham and St. Vincent's travel on Wednesday to face McIntosh and Lovett — game times have not been announced yet.  Savannah Morning News
