- ➤ College HUNKS is partnering with SAFE Shelter to help domestic violence survivors in Savannah by offering free moving services and furniture donations during October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month—local franchise owner Nick Gilstrap, a former police officer, says the service aims to ease moves and help survivors avoid returning to abusive situations. - ➤ Inside the Jewish Educational Alliance, Savannah's Jewish community felt deep relief on Monday after Israel announced that the last hostages were freed from Gaza. Their celebration reflected renewed faith — and a reminder that the work of building community continues. WSAV
- ➤ The Dream Big Foundation helps under-resourced children and families by offering programs like the Back-To-School Giveaway, Bookmark Breakfast literacy events, and a Hygiene Hut initiative. - ➤ The Hostess City Food and Wine Fest Savannah announced its lineup of top chefs, restaurants and beverage partners for the inaugural event, which will run on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 at Eastern Wharf overlooking the Savannah River—organizer Erica Baskin said the festival will highlight local flavors and Southern hospitality and is poised to become a new annual tradition for residents and visitors. - ➤ Superintendent Denise Watts said during Friday's press conference that a third-party review of the school police and HR departments found issues with complaint handling and internal investigations. - ➤ At his state of the university address on Oct. 7, new president Jermaine Whirl announced plans to use $1.2 million in state funds to repair mold and flooding in older campus buildings and to ask for $48.6 million to replace the rundown Willcox-Wiley Gym with a 35,000 square-foot wellness facility. - ➤ The City of Savannah will hold two public meetings on Oct. 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Civic Center Ballroom (301 W. Oglethorpe Ave.) to gather input on the site's future redevelopment as part of an ongoing economic and land use study. WSAV
