  • TV personality, designer and author Stacy London delivered the keynote speech at the 22nd annual St. Joseph's/Candler Smart Women Luncheon held yesterday at the Savannah Convention Center—she engaged the audience and honored local achievements.  Savannah Morning News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Highway 80 between Bull River and Lazaretto Creek remains closed because heavy tides caused flooding, with meteorologists recording the tide at 10.35 feet at 11:36 a.m. (officials will update when the road reopens).  WTOC 11

  • Three hotels in Savannah — Bellwether House, Hotel Bardo, and Perry Lane — and one in Bluffton, Montage Palmetto Bluff, have earned Michelin Keys for 2025, a distinction that recognizes hotels with exceptional overall experiences after anonymous inspections and editorial reviews.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The HBO series Peacemaker Season 2 finale aired on October 9 and used several Savannah riverfront landmarks — including a modified River Street location where Joe’s Crab Shack stood in for Big Belly Burger and a well-known paddleboat featured in key scenes. Local fans recognized these familiar spots as part of Georgia’s active film production, highlighting Savannah’s role in the show.  WTOC 11
  • Local groups in Savannah and surrounding areas will host free Halloween and Día de los Muertos events starting Oct. 25 and continuing through early November—offering pet parades, trunk-or-treats, and community celebrations at key venues—to provide festive options for families.  WSAV
  • The American Revolution Experience interactive exhibit arrives at the Savannah History Museum/Coastal Heritage Society as part of a partnership between the American Battlefield Trust and the Daughters of the American Revolution and will be open through Oct. 23—offering local visitors a hands-on look at the nation’s Revolutionary past.  WSAV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SCCPSS reported that attendance increased to 80% by October 3rd—a 3% rise from last year—and graduation rates have improved while leaders noted challenges such as potential funding shifts, a November vote on a homestead tax exemption, and support for students facing immigration issues. HEALTH NEWS

  • Savannah mother Lauren Seaman, whose young daughter has battled cancer, said the ongoing federal shutdown raises fears of Medicaid payment delays and staffing shortages at local hospitals—these issues could disrupt critical treatment. A nonpartisan analysis warned that if enhanced subsidies expire, premiums for ACA Marketplace plans may jump by 114%, jeopardizing coverage for 22 million Americans.  WJCL
