COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After more than a decade of waiting, Savannah’s Southside residents learned at a town hall that the $9 million Windsor Forest Community Center project will be built off Windsor Road with plans for a youth room, kitchen, exercise space and sports court. The project will see construction begin in 2026 and open in 2027—its funding secured by SPLOST, ARPA and general funds.  WJCL
  • The Big Bash Car Show will take place at Tanger Outlets Savannah in Pooler where organizers plan to display more than 600 vehicles and expect 6,000 to 8,000 people to attend. Hollywood legend Catherine Bach will appear and part of the proceeds will support P.A.C.K. Savannah—an organization that delivers 5400 meal bags each week to local students in need.  WJCL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • State and local officials held the groundbreaking ceremony for The Signia by Hilton hotel, a $398 million riverfront project next to the Savannah Convention Center that is expected to boost tourism and create jobs. The 444-room hotel will serve as the Convention Center's headquarters and will open in 2028 on Hutchinson Island.  WSAV
  • The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport—rated #1 by more than 750,000 travelers—kept its top ranking for a sixth year in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.  WSAV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black Church has been a safe place and a strong voice for change, helping in protests and inspiring hope in the community. The Beach Institute Museum—along with King-Tisdell Cottage—shows work by leaders like Rev. Otis Moss III and Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray who continue local activism.  The Savannah Tribune
  • On Wednesday, the Savannah Children's Theatre announced that they officially purchased the Star Castle property to end a 256-day search for a home. They will transform the old roller rink into a lively performing arts center and plan to seek funds from their Founding 50 donors.  WTOC 11
  • Savannah has been ranked as one of the top 10 U.S. cities by readers of Condé Nast Traveler due to its Instagrammable views, horse-drawn carriages and oak-lined streets draped in Spanish moss—receiving praise at #6 on the list.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Savannah State University's President delivered the first State of the University address on campus—she shared plans to boost academic programs and upgrade campus facilities. The address set a clear direction for future improvements.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Richmond Hill is set for a historic mayoral election where, if a candidate wins on November 4, the city will welcome its first female mayor since 1962—Belgicia Howell-Cowart and Kristi Cox are the only candidates and each plans to boost town meetings and improve communication with residents. Both women aim to build on local growth and address issues like stormwater drainage while drawing on unique community service backgrounds.  WSAV
