- ➤ Savannah residents can look forward to a busy fall weekend with a Glenn Close costume exhibit at the Jepson Center beginning Oct. 10, a Greek Festival running from Oct. 9 to 11, and a Tybee Island Pirate Festival set for Oct. 9‑12. Other events include an art opening with a book release, a documentary screening on Iceland’s historic strike, a fall plant sale at the Botanical Gardens, a Film Biz Recycling yard sale on Oct. 11, and weiner dog races at Plant Riverside District on Oct. 11. - ➤ Savannah State University will host its 135th homecoming on Saturday, October 25th — thousands of alumni will return to campus for a coronation, parade, pep rally and a game against Morehouse. The celebration will honor the school's long legacy and support its future plans to become a doctoral and high-level research institution. WTOC 11
- ➤ Savannah State University President Jermaine Whirl delivered his inaugural State of the University address on Tuesday at the Student Union Ballroom—unveiling his vision under the TheUproar2030 plan as classes resumed after a slight delay caused by power outages. - ➤ Meteorologists report that Invest 95 is likely to become Tropical Storm Jerry and may strengthen into a hurricane as it moves over warm ocean water—forecasts show the storm could bring rough surf and gusty winds to coastal areas while its center stays well east of Savannah this week. - ➤ City of Savannah has placed eight floating litter booms in canals that feed the Savannah River to catch trash and learn its source for future cleanup plans—this project follows a NOAA-funded effort started in 2023.
