CULTURE NEWS

  • SCAD students camped outside Trustees Theater for discounted film festival tickets—over 1,000 students waited with sleeping bags and chairs since Wednesday. With many screenings sold out, students are joining online waitlists as the festival will run from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1.  WJCL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by Consumer Affairs shows that owning a car in Georgia costs drivers about $3,392 a year—insurance, repairs, and fuel drive the high costs that rank the state among the top 10 most expensive for car ownership relative to income.  Savannah Morning News

  • White Bluff Elementary School rediscovered a stone marker for a 1966 time capsule after it was moved offsite—school officials say the marker will be displayed to honor the school's history.  Savannah Morning News

  • On Sunday, heavy rains poured over Savannah and caused street flooding along downtown, Habersham Street, and the Savannah State University campus—students received a flash flood warning at 11:43 a.m. and used rain gear to stay safe.
