COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Davis Ark Baptist Church will honor its pastor, Rev. Dr. Herman M. Woods, Sr.—who served for 29 years—with a 29th Pastoral Anniversary celebration on Sunday, October 5 at 3:00 p.m. at 1220 Sherman Avenue; Pastor Paul Smith of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church will speak.  The Savannah Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Savannah Downtown Business Association and the City of Savannah Film, Tourism & Special Events Department will host a meeting for Broughton Street businesses on October 9 at 8:30 a.m. at Savannah Taphouse + the session will cover updates on street lighting, parades and special events, holiday planning, and networking opportunities.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Gulfstream announced its new G300 jet at an exclusive Discover the Difference Customer event held Tuesday, September 30 at its Research and Development facility in Savannah. The event showcased the next-generation fleet and full-scale mock-ups as customers toured the facility.  Savannah Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Savannah College of Art and Design will host its film festival from October 25 until November 1 featuring an opening gala with Miles Teller and Da'Vine Joy Randolph for 'Eternity' and a centerpiece screening of Craig Brewer’s film 'Song Sung Blue.' The festival will end with a closing night showing Rian Johnson’s 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' along with appearances by Jon Chu and Jennifer Lopez — a star event for local viewers.  WJCL
  • Academy Award-winning production designer Hannah Beachler will receive Variety’s Creative Impact in Production Design Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival on October 28th for her work on Sinners and Black Panther—her recognition marks a historic moment in film design. The festival runs from October 25th to November 1st and will feature panels with noted film industry experts.  The Savannah Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah native Dr. Megan Wilkerson was named to FVSU’s 40 Under 40 list for her leadership in education+community service and STEM outreach. The honor recognizes her achievements as a Fort Valley State University alumna who has opened doors for students in Savannah and beyond.  The Savannah Tribune
  • St. Philip Monumental AME Church will host Savannah State University Day on October 12th at 10 a.m.—the celebration will feature a speech by Dr. Jermaine Whirl, musical performances, and refreshments for community members.  The Savannah Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • City officials reported a major wastewater spill into the Savannah River — over 10,000 gallons were discharged at the Talmadge Bridge when one aeration basin was offline for maintenance on Sept. 25. The city injected extra oxygen into the river to ease the impact and will post warning signs at the outfall.  WSAV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Savannah’s mayor addressed community worries about plans for a civic center and ice rink and said officials will review proposals—public input will guide next steps. He explained that the projects are still under discussion and more details will be shared as plans change.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brighter Day Natural Foods is hosting a free lecture on Lyme and tick-borne diseases today at 7:00 p.m. at The Sentient Bean at 13 E. Park Ave in Savannah—Alexis Chesney, a naturopathic physician, will explain ways to prevent tick bites and spot key symptoms.  The Savannah Tribune

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Savannah restaurant The Grey was named one of the most unique eateries by Tripadvisor in its 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards last week. The Southern establishment — located at 109 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in a restored 1938 art deco bus terminal — offers prix fixe dinners for $85 per person and serves brunch, cocktails and wine on select days.  Savannah Morning News
  • Honey's Homestyle Creamery in Port Wentworth is a family-run shop that makes gelato and sorbet from scratch using quality ingredients. The shop is open 4 pm to 9 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from noon to 9 pm Thursday through Sunday—offering a changing menu that includes dairy free options.  WJCL

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Savannah Bananas wrapped up a historic World Tour—visiting 17 MLB ballparks and 3 NFL stadiums—that set records before returning to Savannah to begin the inaugural Banana Ball Championship series today at Historic Grayson Stadium against the Firefighters. Their record-breaking tour drew more than 2.2 million fans across 40 cities and featured a memorable Disneyland takeover.  Savannah Morning News
