BUSINESS NEWS

  • On September 25th, JLL Capital Markets arranged $115M in refinancing for RiverPort Buildings 5, 6 and 7—a three-building portfolio of newly built Class A distribution centers in Hardeeville that are part of Savannah's industrial market, securing funds for North Signal Capital and EJF Capital LLC through Synovus and City National Bank.  Savannah Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort McAllister staff is preparing to launch Candle Lantern Tours for visitors in the coming days—these tours will highlight the site's history and unique features.  WTOC 11
  • Fort McAllister will hold its 46th annual Candle Lantern Tour on Oct. 4th, offering five 30-minute guided tours for groups of 25 that take visitors back to February 1863 to experience key historical moments. The tours feature dramatic scenes—such as a nighttime cannon firing—and immersive reenactments that bring the fort’s past to life.  WTOC 11
  • A Savannah couple is turning children’s books into interactive storytelling events—designed to bring stories off the page into real life. They will soon host sessions that invite local families to share in live readings.  WTOC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Private schools in 102 Georgia cities received $5.4 million in voucher funds this fall as part of a program that gives families $6,500 per child to switch from low-performing public schools to private education—schools in smaller communities like McDonough, Covington and Conyers received amounts comparable to those in larger cities while $1.7 million was spent on supplies from companies such as Amazon.  The Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service said that two Atlantic storms—Invest 94L and tropical storm Humberto—are developing with one scenario predicting a direct hit to Georgia as Invest 94L may become a tropical cyclone by the weekend. Humberto is forecast to become a hurricane by Sunday and a major hurricane by Monday as Hurricane Hunter planes gather data today and tomorrow to improve the forecast.  Savannah Morning News
  • The spaghetti model track for Tropical Storm Humberto will update with each new report from the National Hurricane Center — officials use these updates to monitor the storm's path and prepare for its impact.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army held its annual Pershing Cup at Forsyth Park this week where Observer Control Trainers faced hard challenges with little sleep—testing both physical and mental strength—and Richmond Hill JROTC cadets watched and felt inspired by the event.  WJCL
  • Katherine Spies, Gulfstream’s Director of Flight Test Engineering, was selected as one of ten from 8,000 applicants for NASA’s All-American 2025 Class of Astronaut candidates that reported for duty in mid September. She will begin training for missions to the International Space Station and for Artemis lunar missions — a step toward future flight assignments.  WTOC 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed three new measles cases, bringing the 2025 total to 10—two patients were unvaccinated while one had an unknown vaccination status. Health experts warned that dropping vaccination rates could risk losing measles elimination if the trend continues.  Savannah Morning News
