- ➤ Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity announced its 4th Annual Home for the Holidays Fundraising Gala which will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah on 2 W. - ➤ Art Nite in Richmond Hill will feature painters, sculptors and photographers on display on Friday at the Richmond Hill Community Center—where Phillip Wise of Missing Parts will perform live music from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Savannah Morning News
- ➤ Evan Goetz and Emily Liebtag from Tybee Post Theater said the group will host a 10-hour telethon on September 27th to celebrate its ten-year anniversary—community members can watch and donate to support local arts. WSAV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Savannah and Statesboro locals were named to the Georgia Southern University Alumni Association's '40 Under 40' Class of 2025—recognizing their achievements in business, leadership, community, education and philanthropy. Savannah Business Journal
- ➤ The Savannah-Chatham public school system has launched a pilot literacy tutoring program that will give 100 second and third grade students one-to-one 15-minute virtual tutoring sessions starting Sept. 29 during Literacy Week—designed to help students catch up by supplementing classroom instruction. Two charter schools have already begun similar pilots with funding from Chatham Educational Alliance to support targeted literacy improvements throughout the school year. Savannah Morning News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Savannah Riverkeeper reported that all of its 30 soil and water samples from the Savannah River basin were contaminated with forever chemicals — PFAS, which are linked to serious health issues. The City of Savannah is suing companies accused of polluting the river, and the case has been moved to a South Carolina court for multi-district litigation. Savannah Morning News
