ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Regional Industry Support Enterprise held its Job Palooza on Thursday at Enmarket Arena for job seekers from its eight member counties and welcomed workers impacted by International Paper.  Savannah Morning News
  • An ICE raid at a Hyundai battery plant near Savannah detained over 300 South Korean workers last Thursday and sparked outrage over confusing visa rules that may hurt future US investment. The detained workers are arriving in Seoul today as South Korean officials ask the US to ease restrictions—raising concerns about the economic impact.  WJCL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists identified a new fish species called Bartram’s Bass in the Savannah River system—research published in Zootaxa shows the fish has a turquoise crescent on its eye and lives in river habitats across South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina. The study by state agencies and universities took decades and highlights the need to protect local waterways.  Savannah Morning News
