COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Savannah’s beloved Forsyth Park fountain will be reinstalled on Tuesday, Sept 16 as Robinson Iron begins the restoration ahead of schedule after a month-long closure for its first overhaul since 1988.  WSAV
  • On Sunday, Savannah firefighters gathered at Enmarket Arena to complete the 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and honor New York City’s fallen first responders from 9/11. Participants ascended the equivalent of 110 flights and carried badges bearing the names of lost colleagues—each step marking a moment of remembrance.  Savannah Morning News

CRIME NEWS

  • Migrant Equity Southeast and immigrant rights groups held a press conference at the Episcopal Diocese in Savannah Monday to address the nearly 500 workers detained last Thursday at the Hyundai Megasite in Bryan County—officials have not yet provided further details as the investigation continues.  WJCL
  • Police say a domestic shooting outside a Georgia Best Buy on Walton Way Extension left two adults dead and one injured while a young child present remained unharmed—officials noted there is no known threat to the public.  WJCL

  • Rise Savannah is hosting JobPalooza today—a regional hiring event that brings job seekers together with top local employers from eight counties including International Paper and DS Smith. Many companies plan to interview on-site for positions in manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, and administration.  Savannah Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Savannah Arts Academy joined a nationwide walkout today organized by Students Demand Action + they called for stronger measures to prevent school shootings.  Savannah Morning News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A drone will fly over Tybee Island’s beaches in the next few days using LiDAR to track rising erosion—data that will help researchers create maps for city leaders to plan the upcoming renourishment—set for winter.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After 11.79 inches of rainfall in August—nearly double the normal average—Savannah increased its stormwater and sewer maintenance to ease strain on underground systems and address sinkholes that disrupted traffic. City crews deployed vacuum trucks to clear inlets and have resolved 13 minor and two major sewer spills in 2025.  WTOC 11
  • After nearly doubling the average August rainfall, Savannah is increasing its stormwater and sewer maintenance with more than 16 active improvement projects planned. The city has addressed sewage spills in 2025+urges residents to keep storm drains clear to help reduce flooding risks.  WSAV
