- ➤ This morning, the Chatham County Gang Prevention and Intervention Commission launched the Campaign for Life initiative to provide safe spaces and activities for at-risk youth and to help prevent gang violence—local youth groups and law enforcement agencies are joining to support the program. - ➤ The City of Savannah’s Sanitation Department and Keep Savannah Beautiful are inviting residents and organizations to register for the annual Great Savannah Fall Community Cleanup, which will occur Saturday—Oct. 11. Registration is open on the city website. Savannah Business Journal
- ➤ On Sunday morning, Savannah Professional Firefighters hosted a stair climb at Enmarket Arena to honor 9/11 heroes, with participants climbing over 2,000 steps and ringing a bell to recognize the 343 firefighters who died in duty—each bell a token of remembrance. Jeremy Kirk, a firefighter from Warner Robins Fire Department who traveled two and a half hours to join the event, said the climb was a small yet meaningful way to show thanks. WJCL

- ➤ More than 100 Savannah Arts Academy students walked out of class Friday and gathered at Tiedemann Park to protest gun violence after a Minneapolis school shooting left 2 children dead and injured 17. Zoe Wagner, president of Students Demand Action, said the protest aimed to push lawmakers to act as students face daily security checks—using metal detectors and lockdown drills—to remind them of ongoing safety concerns. - ➤ Protesters gathered outside the Hyundai Megasite in Bryan County on Saturday to protest an ICE raid that resulted in nearly 500 people being taken into custody—organizers from local groups chanted in both English and Spanish to demand change. Estevan Hernandez drove from Atlanta to join the rally, which followed a July report of poor working conditions—a factor cited by congressional candidate Tori Branum amid social media backlash. WJCL
