COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 912 Day celebrations in Savannah, created in 2021 as a nine-day event, drew crowds to Friday’s porch party at Live Oak Public Library and featured a daily social media scavenger hunt that linked residents to local landmarks. Today, residents can join the Patriot Run in Forsyth, and on Sunday they will take part in the Sips at the Station fundraiser at Ardsley Station — all parts of an event celebrating the city’s unique spirit.  WTOC 11
  • A group of people protested ICE ride-alongs outside the Chatham County Courthouse in Savannah yesterday morning—carrying signs to voice their concerns.  WSAV
  • United Way of the Coastal Empire launched its 2026 campaign on Thursday at the Savannah Convention Center, setting a $5.2 million goal for its Community Fund to support direct assistance, nonprofit grants and literacy programs. Campaign chair Ryan Chandler and local businesses helped raise over $800,000 during the initial phase (pacesetter campaign) to boost support for those in need.  Savannah Morning News

CRIME NEWS

  • ICE agents arrested about 475 people at a Hyundai megasite in Bryan County on Thursday as part of a multi-month investigation into illegal employment practices involving many subcontractors—most of the arrests were Korean nationals sent to the D. Ray James Correctional Facility in Folkston.  Savannah Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, a cozy independent bookstore in Savannah — E. Shaver, Bookseller — is ranked No. 7 on USA Today's 10BEST list on National Read a Book Day and is the only Georgia store to earn this national honor. The historic building, dating from 1842 and operating as a bookstore since 1975, continues its long legacy under new management.  Savannah Morning News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Heartwood at Richmond Hill held a ribbon cutting for The Preserve at Heartwood luxury apartments on Thursday afternoon on Heartwood Avenue near Exit 82 on I-95 South. Construction began in 2023 and will finish later this week — the 302-unit complex offers screened-in porches, a fitness center, and a dog park while 40% has been leased.  Savannah Morning News
