ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On June 17, a Georgia State Patrol trooper hit Brett Campbell’s car while chasing a stolen vehicle in Chatham County and his vehicle remains unrepaired as his insurer ruled him at fault despite the crash report listing the trooper as responsible—Campbell now hopes the incident will prompt changes to prevent more harm. - ➤ Tybee Island officials warned that Labor Day crowds faced dangerous rip currents and rough surf as strong winds created hazardous conditions at the beach. Lifeguards and Mayor West advised swimmers to stay near lifeguard towers + check flag warnings to keep safe. WSAV

- ➤ Film productions are moving overseas as companies like Marvel Studios shift projects to Europe for lower labor and health care costs. The number of films in our area dropped from 16 in 2022 to 8 in 2024 to 3 so far in 2025 — and a new postproduction tax credit may help bring work back. WSAV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ International Paper is closing its Riceboro and Savannah facilities and will lay off about 1,100 workers, prompting two job fairs to support affected workers. The RISE Job Palooza will begin on Sept. 11 at Enmarket Arena in Savannah while the Liberty County Job Fair is set for Sept. 10 at Riceboro Youth Center—events designed to connect job seekers with new opportunities.
