- ➤ The Savannah Regional Central Labor Council hosted its annual Workers' Labor Day picnic at Lake Mayer Pavilion on August 31 to honor workers with union leaders and local politicians reflecting on past struggles and benefits. The event was organized with the Georgia State AFL—CIO and drew a large crowd. WJCL
- ➤ A Savannah family experienced a heartwarming reunion when First Class Airman Kristan Porter returned home for a few weeks before he departs for a three-year assignment in Germany. His family surprised him and his father said he is proud of his service—WTOC captured the special moment. WTOC 11
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Troopers said that on Sunday night a pedestrian was struck and killed on State Route 25 at Gamble Road when a white Chevrolet Malibu hit the person walking in a dark non-crossing area—authorities have not yet confirmed the victim’s identity. WJCL

- ➤ Today, a tour at The Douglas—a boutique hotel with 16 recently restored rooms in the Historic District—showed that the renovated property is ready to welcome guests. Savannah Morning News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials in Tybee Island are planning an $80 million, 20-year project to fix stormwater issues by widening pipes and building a reservoir to flush water out of the low area—using green methods such as rain gardens to ease flooding. The work will start in January and finish by late May but relies partly on federal grants. Savannah Morning News
