  • Area churches will come together for the Love Bridge Outreach Celebration this weekend at Floyd—Press Boy Adams Park to offer free food, music and giveaways. Reverend Donald Lowe and Pastor Roemain Bennett—a pair of church leaders—said the event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30.  WSAV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gulfstream Aerospace delivered its first customer aircraft—the Gulfstream G800, the world’s longest range business jet—to a customer in Savannah today. The jet features enhanced cabin comfort and advanced performance capabilities from its completions at the Appleton facility.  WTOC 11
  • Recent alcohol license approvals at Savannah City Council meetings show that new eateries like Darling Oyster Bar at Montgomery Street, The Sexton Irish pub at 43rd Street, Southern Cross Hospitality’s Fishbar, and the Savannah Wine Institute are set to open soon. Nate Shaffer announced the sale of Wiley's Championship BBQ on Aug. 21—adding to the evolving local dining scene.  Savannah Morning News

  • The Earl T. Shinhoster Youth Leadership Foundation will hold its 15/25 Jubilee on September 25th at 6:30 p.m. at the Dr. Priscilla D. Thomas Annex—this event will celebrate 15 years of the youth leadership institute and mark the 25th anniversary of Shinhoster’s passing while featuring a keynote address by Rev. Nelson B. ECONOMY NEWS

  • RISE is holding a two-day job fair called Job Palooza at the Enmarket Arena on Sept. 11 and 12 in Savannah in response to International Paper's mill closures that will impact about 1,000 local jobs+ job seekers should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes for on-site interviews.  Savannah Morning News
  • Georgia ports supported over 650,000 jobs in fiscal 2024 and now make up 12% of all state work—boosting key sectors such as transportation, warehousing, and manufacturing. They handled major exports like forest products, food, and automotive cargo while importing machinery, retail goods, and furniture to help grow the economy.  Savannah Morning News
  • Savannah State University contributed $164.4 million to the local economy in fiscal year 2024 by spending on salaries, operating costs, and local purchases, which increased its impact by 9.3% over the previous year — for every on-campus job, two additional off-campus jobs were supported.  WSAV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rains have caused aging sewers in Savannah and coastal counties including Glynn, Liberty and Effingham to overflow—resulting in 12 spills early in August and contaminating private wells with wastewater. Officials warn that rising groundwater and failing septic tanks may boost E. coli levels in local water supplies.  Savannah Morning News
