  • Chris Doborwicz has taken over as commanding officer of Savannah's Salvation Army and said the organization will recalibrate its programs to better meet the community's urgent needs amid limited staffing and resources—he plans to assess services and build a new Center of Hope on Montgomery Street.  Savannah Morning News

  • Savannah police are investigating a fatal shooting on LaRoche Avenue—details remain scarce as the department asks anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.  WJCL
  • A Savannah man was indicted on murder charges for his suspected role in a fatal fentanyl overdose in 2023—law enforcement has not shared further details.  WTOC 11
  • Jovi Reeves, a 15-year-old girl from Richmond Hill, left her home between 12:30 and 7 a.m. Saturday—she was reported missing by Bryan County authorities.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah-Chatham County Public School System opened a new career technical and agricultural education facility at Groves High School that offers an aviation maintenance and logistics program funded in part by $335,485 from Gulfstream Aerospace—$2.6 million was used to update the building to meet state education standards.  Savannah Morning News

  • On Tybee Island, researchers from the UGA Skidaway Institute of Oceanography are using LiDAR technology with drones to map the beach and dunes as they work to protect coastal areas from rising seas and storms—data shared with the Army Corps of Engineers will guide future renourishment efforts.  The Current

  • The Chatham County Commission voted 6-3 on Friday to pass a resolution nullifying a state law that replaced the board of Chatham Area Transit, saying the new board is unconstitutionally created—commissioners led by Chairman Chester Ellis aim to reinstate the former board.  The Current

  • Healthy Savannah is showing the documentary Chocolate Milk today at Georgia Southern University's Armstrong Campus in the Student Union Ballroom—doors open at 2:30 p.m.—to mark Black Breastfeeding Week.
