ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At approximately 4:57 a.m. on Aug 19, a house fire displaced a family of four at the 2300 block of Coakley Street in Savannah—firefighters controlled the flames and notified the Red Cross for help.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • Jennifer Underwood of Guyton was arrested and charged with murdering her husband Johnathan Underwood when his body was discovered at a home on Pine Street just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday—police say she may face additional charges as the investigation continues.  WJCL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Dierks Bentley will perform in Savannah tomorrow at Enmarket Arena at 7:00 p.m.—he will share the stage with special guest Zach Top and The Band Loula.  WTOC 11
  • The 35-acre land—site of the historic Weeping Time slave auction—is up for sale or lease and is being promoted for industrial development. Preservation advocates ask city, county, and state officials to protect the site so its history is kept alive.  WJCL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Savannah State University renamed Tiger Court Residence Hall as Bostic Residence Hall on Tuesday to honor former student and Army veteran Melvin Bostic who died during a campus fundraiser in 1972—family, friends, and alumni celebrated his legacy.  WTOC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supporters are urging state and local officials to act as Olympia Café faces closure if its lease is not renewed due to a state law. The iconic restaurant—famed for its blue and white awning and having lost owner Nick Pappas in May—will be forced to relocate by the end of the year unless proposals submitted this week help save it.  WSAV
  • A new traffic signal on US 80 near Westside Boulevard will be activated Tuesday, August 26 if weather permits and is located near the entrance to Westside Business Park and Priya Circle, close to exit 102 off interstate 95—its installation by a developer included updated medians and message boards to help guide drivers. Motorists are advised to slow down and follow posted work zone directions.  WTOC 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ticket sales are open for the 2025 SEC Volleyball Tournament in Savannah at Enmarket Arena from November 21–25. Sixteen SEC teams will clash over five days of play — fans should secure all-session tickets to catch every serve and spike.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce
