- ➤ In June, a large section of the ceiling collapsed at the historic Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in downtown Savannah due to age and deterioration; no one was inside when the collapse occurred. The church will spend $350,000 to remove the damaged ceiling and plans to hold services in alternate spaces until it returns to the building within six months. WJCL

- ➤ Garden City Police Department said officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle on Dean Forest Road Friday when the juvenile driver struck another car and continued on Interstate 16 east before losing control after a tire deflated and colliding with a trash truck near Chatham Parkway, causing a major traffic backup—he was arrested and taken to Youth Detention Center on charges including theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing to elude, reckless driving, and hit and run with only minor injuries reported. - ➤ Davenport House Museum’s executive director Danielle Hodes will speak at the Historic Savannah Foundation lecture series at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21 at 321 E.
