ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 14, a woman rescued herself and her 3-year-old after their car nearly drowned in floodwater in Savannah—she said she did not think they would make it out.  WTOC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • A Savannah man—Nicholas Kassotis—was found guilty of murdering and dismembering his wife after her remains were discovered on Dec. 2 at a hunting club in Liberty and McIntosh counties and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 25 years.  WJCL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into the season’s first hurricane today and become a major hurricane this weekend—models show it will turn west-northwest and bring dangerous rip currents to the Southeast Coast next week.  WJCL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Savannah City Hall reopened on Thursday after extensive interior restoration that updated historic spaces while preserving original marble, mosaics and woodwork. The event began with an open house for council members at 10 a.m., public tours at noon and a City Council meeting at 2 p.m.—the first meeting in the restored chamber honored the project team.  WTOC 11
