COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cliff McCurry, 77, a respected insurance executive and community friend—cherished by colleagues—died July 31 at his home. Funeral arrangements by Fox and Weeks state a memorial service will be held tomorrow at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with a reception to follow.  Savannah Morning News
  • On Saturday, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce hosted its signature Black Business Expo to celebrate Black and minority owned businesses with over 50 vendors + local entrepreneurs networking. The free event also attracted nearly 2,000 attendees + provided a valued opportunity for unique companies to gain exposure.  WTOC 11

CRIME NEWS

  • Chatham County Police are searching for 51-year-old Angel Dominguez—5’3” and 175 lbs with brown eyes and reddish hair—last seen on the 4000 block of Ogeechee Rd as she is missing and possibly endangered due to a health issue; anyone with information is urged to call 911.  WTOC 11

  • Savannah Bishop Stephen Parkes rededicated St. James the Less Catholic Church after a restoration project updated its sanctuary as part of a $15M campus transformation (the church is now ready to serve its parishioners).  Savannah Morning News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is starting the year with new safety measures that include 68 officers, three new K9 units, and an active shooter simulation lab with first responders—measures that also require teachers to wear panic buttons under Rickie and Alyssa’s law and encourage parents to report concerns early. This approach aims to boost campus security and improve early intervention in emergencies.  WTOC 11
  • Today, Savannah Technical College launches its Guaranteed Transfer Program to let students transfer 38 core courses (from TCSG to USG schools) as they work toward earning a bachelor’s degree. The program will ease the path for local students by ensuring smoother credit transfers (providing a clear route to higher education).  Savannah Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Jason Esteves visited Savannah last Saturday and Sunday to meet local voters while stressing his plans to boost the economy, education and healthcare if elected governor. He promised to enforce job agreements and secure federal aid for Hurricane Helene victims—efforts aimed at helping small businesses and local growth—while he prepares for the governor race on Nov. 3.  Savannah Morning News
