  • The LB3 Foundation is hosting the 10th Annual Back to School Celebration of Life event—Pack The Park—at Forsyth Park today from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in memory of Lawrence Bryan III who was killed in a shooting almost ten years ago, and Savannah students and their families will enjoy giveaways, contests, line dancing, and live entertainment.  WJCL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Talmadge Memorial Bridge is closed for inspection after a crane hit its underside on the Savannah River—officials are rerouting southbound U.S. 17 onto Hutchinson Island, closing river traffic, and reporting no injuries.  WJCL

CRIME NEWS

  • Franklin James (16) turned himself in to Savannah police on Thursday for his role in the July 2 Oglethorpe Mall shooting that killed one woman and injured three others; he will face charges including felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession offenses.  Savannah Morning News
  • Two brothers — Jamond and Jatwone Reid — were arrested by the Chatham County Police Department in connection with the July 25 homicide on Highway 204 near Interstate 95 that killed 25-year-old Tre’von Moorer and face charges of murder and aggravated assault.  WSAV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Forsyth Park fountain, built in 1858, was dismantled in June and is now undergoing restoration by Robinson Iron in Alexander City, Ala—with hundreds of pieces receiving detailed cleaning and repair. Savannah City Council approved the $650,000 project in May—with plans to reassemble the iconic landmark by the end of the year.  The Current
  • Visitors at the Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah can ride a locomotive from Friday through Sunday at the top of every hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.—call 912 651 6823 for schedule updates. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—located at 655 Louisville Road.  WSAV
