  • The meeting at The DeSoto gathered over 150 AMC executives for three days of networking and industry insights—attendees enjoyed a reception at the Savannah Convention Center that included a preview of the expanded facility and a guided tour of the historic district led by Visit Savannah.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce
  • Last week, Visit Savannah welcomed Penny Key from the National Hardwood Flooring Association and guided her through top venues including The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Savannah Convention Center. The NHFA will host its 2029 national conference in Savannah with 2,500 attendees expected over four nights + the visit showcased the city’s strong meeting facilities and charm.  Savannah Chamber of Commerce

CRIME NEWS

  • A shooting at Oglethorpe Mall on July 2 left one woman dead and six young men facing serious charges as investigators gather more evidence. New surveillance footage not yet released suggests a chain-snatching fight sparked the violence and a hearing is set for August 27 to review further charges — only a 16-year-old suspect remains at large.  WTOC 11
  • Savannah Police said an adult man was found with a gunshot wound behind the Abercorn Target on July 30 and video evidence suggests he self-inflicted the wound—investigators continue their inquiry.  WTOC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Goodwill of Southeast Georgia will host its 6th Annual Teacher Book Giveaway this Saturday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Educators must show a valid school or homeschool ID to pick up 10 free books and receive a 10% discount on any purchase.  Savannah Morning News
  • The Southeastern Quarterbacks Club distributed Scholarship Fund Awards to local students who have been accepted to college and their coaches. Founded in 1957 to support high school athletes, the club has raised funds through its annual Bayou Classic bus trips — a tradition that builds future opportunities for students— and continues to honor community achievement.  The Savannah Tribune
  • Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is offering free breakfast and lunch to all students this school year with international dishes on Thursdays and Taste Test Tuesday to help kids try new foods. School leaders say the plan will help students focus better in class — meals are made with five ingredients or less and follow state guidelines.  WJCL
