COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Junior League of Savannah is hosting its third annual Find The Good Day giveaway to help local teachers start the school year fully stocked with classroom supplies—educators from Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties in Georgia and Beaufort and Jasper counties in South Carolina are invited to apply for a chance to have their classrooms equipped.  Savannah Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Midtown Savannah will host a busy weekend with art, music and film as Arts Southeast’s First Friday exhibit runs Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.—and Saturday will feature an all-day Jerry Day at Two Tides, a tequila tasting at Victory North starting at 3 p.m. and a free movie screening at Savannah Arts Academy with a social hour at 5:30 p.m.  Savannah Morning News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Port of Savannah had its second busiest year on record as the Georgia Ports Authority reported an 8.6% cargo increase, with June moving 410,400 TEUs and monthly averages over 475,000 TEUs. The authority invested $470 million in projects, including eight new ship-to-shore cranes+additional warehousing and storage space, and plans future expansions such as a new berth at Brunswick and redevelopment of the Ocean Terminal.  GPB News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 29th, SCAD donated tens of thousands of art materials, including paint, brushes, fabric, charcoal, sketch paper and portfolio bags, to Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools with each school receiving a box while more than 50 art educators picked their supplies. The donation, part of the SCAD SERVE program that set up extra donation sites across campus and collected more supplies than ever before, has supported arts education since 2010.  WTOC 11
