Tybee Island made its beach wheelchair program even more accessible by moving chair pickup to an office at 1509 Strand Avenue—helping people with disabilities enjoy the beach.

The change came after years of a less convenient service run by the fire department and was boosted by a donation from Savannah AMBUCS that provided eight new chairs.

Georgia DNR and Manomet staff visited the Ogeechee Bar on July 15—one of the last breeding grounds for shorebirds and seabirds—to rope off sensitive nesting habitat after noticing disturbances such as dog paw prints and a dead chick.
