- ➤ Tybee Island offers a free beach wheelchair program for residents and visitors with mobility issues—10 chairs are available, including eight donated by Savannah AMBUCS with a $16,000 contribution. The city will add five more chairs and buy beach walkers under the FY 2026 budget so more people can enjoy the beach. Savannah Morning News

- ➤ On July 9, 20-year-old Johnathan Elijah Jones was arrested in connection to the Oglethorpe Mall shooting in Savannah—he faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony and two counts of aggravated assault. WTOC 11

- ➤ The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System will hold in-person registration events on July 16 at Southwest Middle School located at 6030 Ogeechee Road and on July 24 at the Family and Student Services Center located at 400 East Broad Street from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. — Translation services along with help for transportation and school nutrition will be provided to families. - ➤ The TSA no longer requires travelers to remove their shoes at security checkpoints, a change announced earlier this week by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to speed up screenings. - ➤ On Sunday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda posthumously awarded the Order of the Cross of Vytis to four Fort Stewart soldiers who died on April 1 during a training exercise when their vehicle was found in a peat bog—Staff Sergeant Troy S. - ➤ Chatham County voters will decide in November on a SPLOST that could raise $700 million, with Tybee Island set to receive about $13.58 million in funds. Tybee’s top priorities are an $8 million beach nourishment project, a new fire station to replace its cramped building, and $4.35 million for resiliency measures against coastal flooding—projects aimed at protecting the island's infrastructure.
