- ➤ On July 5, police arrested an adult male for possessing an illegal gun linked to the July 2 Oglethorpe Mall shooting—officials said the suspect has known gang ties and that more details will come later. Savannah Business Journal
- ➤ On July 5, Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones cautioned city and county officials for making premature comments about the July 2 traffic shooting at Oglethorpe Mall—she said she will issue a public appeal on Thursday to avoid harming the case or scaring potential witnesses. - ➤ Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones said that statements by SPD and Mayor Van Johnson about gang affiliations among suspects in the July 2nd Oglethorpe Mall shooting are premature — this includes the case of 20-year-old Aujawan Tyrell Hymon charged with illegal weapon possession — and she ordered that names not be released to protect the investigation and public safety.
