ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, a Ford Mustang collided head-on with a Ford F-150 on US 17 about five miles south of Hardeeville near Telfair Plantation Drive—killing the Mustang's lone driver and sending the F-150 driver to a Savannah hospital as authorities investigate the crash.  WTOC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Film Biz Recycling in Savannah, a prop house for movie and television productions, has opened a tool library that rents out power drills, wrenches, saws and sewing machines to local residents for a monthly fee. Subscribers can borrow tools for one week—making it easier for people to use equipment that may be too expensive to buy.  WSAV
  • Airport officials reported that Saturday saw over 10,000 seats in both directions and a hectic TSA rush—delays occurred from Atlanta weather affecting connecting flights. Officials say the busy travel period will continue ahead of the July 4th weekend as more travelers are expected.  WSAV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Savannah man, 24 year old Luvrio Wilkerson, was arrested on June 14 during a peaceful protest for wearing a keffiyeh under a Georgia law originally meant to curb KKK intimidation after he ran from officers who said his actions concealed his identity—his arrest raises questions about how the law will be applied in upcoming demonstrations.  Savannah Morning News
  • Three suspects—Elwyn Crocker, Kim Wright, and Mark Wright—have court hearings today at Effingham County Superior Court for charges in the 2018 murders of Mary and Elwyn Crocker Junior; they could face the death penalty if convicted.  WTOC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new list of fireworks displays for July 4 has been published for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry—Savannah Riverfront will light up at 9:30 p.m., Tybee Island at 9:15 p.m., and other sites like St. Simons, Jekyll, Brunswick, Sea Island, Hinesville, Effingham, Hilton Head, Port Royal, Fripp Island and Bluffton have scheduled times ranging from dusk to 9 p.m.; the schedule will be updated as more details become available.  WSAV
  • Workers from Robinson Iron disassembled the historic Forsyth Park fountain this morning to start its first major restoration in nearly 40 years; its pieces—including the spouting mermen and swans—will be sent to Alexander City, Ala. for restoration.  Savannah Morning News

  • City offices and facilities will be closed on July 4 for Independence Day—emergency services will remain open. Sanitation services will be affected by the holiday closure.  Savannah Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hospice Savannah will launch its new program, Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE), on July 1 at the Steward Center for Palliative Care in partnership with the Edel Caregiver Institute. The program will offer enhanced services and support for individuals with dementia and their caregivers, including those in underserved areas.  Savannah Business Journal
