ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Savannah Fire Department responded to a reported chlorine leak near the 2400 block of Augusta Avenue—urging residents to steer clear of the area. WSAV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The GBI arrested three people including former magistrate judge William Ashe, Dennis Cox, and Merinda Watson for felony attempted burglary—Ashe’s bond is set at $5,100 and they are held at Camden County Jail. WJCL
- ➤ Savannah police are searching for missing teen Kymaurie Ward—15 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and 90 pounds—who was last seen on the 700 block of Harmon Street in southside Savannah; anyone with information is urged to call 911. WJCL
- ➤ The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Tony Arnsdorff’s convictions for malice murder and possession of a firearm during a felony in the 2017 death of Courtney Wells in Effingham County—he was sentenced to life without parole plus 15 years after his 2019 conviction. WSAV
- ➤ The Savannah Police warned Lowcountry residents that scammers are texting using real officer names to ask for information via a hyperlink—residents are advised to delete any suspicious messages immediately. WTOC 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Georgia will host a series of fireworks displays and festivals before, during, and after the 4th of July—savannah's Waterfront event will feature live music from the Third Infantry Division Brass Band and Rock Band from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. followed by a choreographed barge-launched fireworks show on the Savannah River at around 9:30 p.m. Savannah Morning News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Chatham County Mosquito Control has used sentinel chickens for over 20 years to check for dangerous mosquito-borne viruses by placing the birds in trees overnight. The chickens are tested regularly and no viruses have been found so far, while officials sprayed areas east of the Wilmington River (treated six times this year) and will use 50 new chickens next season (as part of ongoing efforts).
